Welcome to the Gout Food Scanner Privacy Policy. Rapidserve ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Gout Food Scanner mobile application (the "App").

1. Information Collection and Use

1.1 Personal Information

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The App is designed to function without requiring:

• User registration or account creation
• Name, email, or contact information
• Payment or financial information
• Location data or GPS information

1.2 Camera & Food Label Images

The App requests camera access solely to photograph food packaging labels. Photos are transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our cloud processing service for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) text extraction only. Images are not stored, logged, or retained by us in any form after processing is complete. Processing typically takes under 15 seconds, after which the image data is discarded.

1.3 Scan History

Scan results (the text analysis output — not your photos) are stored locally on your device only. This data never leaves your device and is not synced to any server or third-party service. You can delete your scan history at any time within the App.

1.4 Usage Data & Analytics

We do not use any standalone analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Our advertising partner Google AdMob may collect limited usage signals and your device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android) for the purpose of serving ads. See Section 4.3 for details.

1.5 Health Data

Because the App provides information related to gout, the foods you scan and the resulting risk analysis may be considered health-related information ("Health Data").

• Access and Collection: We do not collect, transmit, sync, or store any Health Data on our servers. All Health Data (such as your scan history, food ingredient analysis, and gout risk assessments) is accessed and stored strictly locally on your device.
• Usage: Health Data is generated and processed locally solely to provide you with the App's core functionality—returning a dietary risk analysis for the scanned food item.
• Sharing: We do not share, sell, or disclose any Health Data to third parties. Health Data is never used for advertising, marketing, tracking, or profiling purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

The image you capture is used for one purpose only:

• To extract text from the food label using OCR so that a general gout dietary risk analysis can be returned to your device.

No image is stored on our servers. No personal data or Health Data is used for advertising, profiling, or any secondary purpose.

3. Data Security

We prioritise the security of your information:

• Local Storage: All scan results are stored using your device's secure local storage
• No Cloud Sync: Your scan data never leaves your device
• Encryption in Transit: All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS
• Minimal Surface: The app sends only the label image to our OCR service; no personal metadata is included

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party infrastructure to process requests:

4.1 Modal Labs (modal.com)

• Cloud compute provider for OCR (text extraction from food images)
• Images are not retained after the request completes
• Subject to Modal's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

4.2 Cloudflare Workers (cloudflare.com)

• Serverless API gateway for AI-based ingredient analysis
• Receives OCR text only — not your image
• No personal data is stored or logged
• Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy

4.3 Google AdMob (google.com)

• In-app advertising SDK used to display banner, native, rewarded, and app open advertisements
• May collect your device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android), IP address, and limited usage signals for the purpose of serving relevant ads and measuring ad performance
• On iOS 14.5 and later, the App requests your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before any personalised advertising identifier is accessed. If you decline, AdMob will serve non-personalised ads only
• You may opt out of personalised ads at any time via Settings → Privacy → Tracking on iOS, or Settings → Google → Ads on Android
• Subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Google AdMob's Data Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third party for marketing or commercial purposes.

5. Data Retention

• Images: Discarded immediately after OCR processing. Not stored anywhere.
• OCR text (in transit): Not logged or retained by our cloud services after the response is returned.
• Scan history: Stored only on your device. Retained until you delete it.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the App and provided personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: All data, including Health Data, is stored locally on your device and accessible only to you
• Deletion: Clear all scan history and local Health Data anytime through the App or your device settings
• No Account: No registration means no account data to request or delete from our servers

If you are located in the EEA, United Kingdom, or California, and believe we hold any personal data about you, please contact us using the details below and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Legal Compliance

This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy laws, including:

• General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — for EU users
• UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 — for UK users
• California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — for California residents
• Australian Privacy Act 1988 — for Australian users
• Google Play Store and Apple App Store Developer Program Policies

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we make changes:

• The "Last Updated" date at the top will be revised
• Significant changes may be notified through app updates
• Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
